Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy: EMDR
I use EMDR therapy for treatment of trauma and distressing life experiences that hinder health, outlook and personal functioning. This is an evidenced based treatment modality that has been found to be effective for resolving the negative influences of past life events and circumstances. I have specialized EMDR training to treat children and adolescents as well as adults. I am certified as an EMDR practitioner through the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA).

Emotional Freedom Techniques: EFT
EFT focuses on the body’s meridian system to release emotional disruption as it is held in the physical body. This process is often referred to as a psychological version of acupuncture. Instead of needles, the practitioner guides the client in verbalization processes while tapping on specific acupuncture points. I am certified as an Advanced EFT practitioner through the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology (ACEP). I received consultation and supervision from Tina Craig, daughter of Gary Craig, the inventor of EFT.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction: MBSR
Interested individual patients and family members are taught about formal and informal meditative/mindfulness practices that are proven to help reduce emotional stress and improve interpersonal interaction. This supports development of a personalized style of mindfulness practice that can be incorporated into daily life. I have completed the 8 week MBSR program as a participant and mental health practitioner. I am involved with personal and professional activities and organizations which promote mindful living through MBSR type self care practices.
For information about MBSR and its originator Jon Kabat-Zinn:
I utilize Motivational Interviewing to assist people with identifying their personal values and reasons for embarking on making lifestyle changes. This awareness then becomes an internal resource to help people build even greater readiness and commitment for change and personal growth.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy: DBT
I draw upon many concepts and practices that are components of DBT to assist people in positive self care. I find that the philosophy of holding the dialectic of “acceptance and change” to be profoundly helpful to anyone struggling with inner and outer conflict. I teach mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness as developed in this proven form of treatment.
