You understand by viewing this website you will be introduced to an integrative approach to psychotherapy and wellness which includes using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and a couple of complementary and alternative methods, including Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR).
EMDR has been accepted as a therapy for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PSTD) and is a recommended treat for trauma in the Practice Guidelines of the American Psychiatric Association, the Departments of Veterans Affairs and Defense, SAMSHA, the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, and the World Health Organization. However, EMDR is considered an experimental therapy for all other indications based on the current state of the published research on EMDR.
EFT is based on the emerging field of energy psychology and seeks to address imbalances within a person’s energy system, as well as the energetic influence of thoughts, beliefs, and emotions on the body. EFT uses the ancient Chinese meridian system and is believed to balance an individual’s energy system with a gentle tapping procedure which stimulates designated meridian end points on the face and body while focusing on issues of emotional intensity in order to release the intensity and reframe the issues. The prevailing premise of EFT is that the flow and balance of the body’s electromagnetic and more subtle energies are important for physical, spiritual, and emotional health, and for fostering well-being. Although EFT appears to have promising mental, spiritual, and physical benefits and there is a growing amount of scientific research indicating that EFT is an effective evidence-supported technique, especially for managing stress, EFT has yet to be fully researched by the Western academic, medical, and psychological communities, and therefore, is considered experimental. Please be advised that EFT and MBSR are considered alternative or complementary to the healing arts that are licensed in the United States.
